Last year (2009) MWMGOC members asked for more weekend activities and runs but when the time came to support the events arranged that club support was sadly lacking. This year, let’s show other MG clubs we can leave our splendid hills and travel into the big wide world beyond, maybe even cross the border into England! I’ve got a passport . . .
Brian D is compiling a list of events which the committee think the club should support. By doing this early, we hope members can arrange their other private summer activities around the dates we have committed to, and the club can improve its representation at national club events.
We cannot expect other MG Clubs to come and support our Dragon Run, year after year, if we do not support their runs. A few of our members supported the Hereford Run last year, so that is one not on the list for this year. Of course, you can still go individually if you want to.
To kick the ball off, I propose combining Brian’s idea for a weekend away with Pembroke MG’s Pendine Dash. The idea is to travel to the Pembroke area (near St. Clears) for a 3 night B&B stay at a Brains PH which offers comfortable, reasonably priced rooms and serves good food. We travel down on Friday afternoon and get settled in, with Saturday free to explore the area as a group or individually (whatever takes you), then on Sunday, after a decent full English breakfast, it’s up the road a few miles to the start of the Pendine Dash. If it’s anything like the 2009 Dash then you are “going” to enjoy it! For Application Form see 8th August in Forthcoming Events. We spend Sunday night at our accommodation before setting off home on Monday morning, maybe stopping off at places of interest on the way home.
So planning can be put in place, we need members to indicate whether they propose to support this event. Please contact Michael or Brian as soon as possible so we can get an idea of cost, etc.
Other Club runs will be offered once a selection has been completed. These could also be arranged with overnight accommodation included. Let’s get out and about in 2010 and wave the “Dragon” at other events.
I look forward to committee members comments when they read this. Comments from members are most welcome too.
2010 is the year MWMGOC finally gets itself into gear . . .
